Expression-line peptide
Acetyl Octapeptide-3 (SNAP-8)
Products with Acetyl Octapeptide-3 (SNAP-8)
Acetyl octapeptide-3, trade name SNAP-8, is the extended sibling of the better-known Argireline (acetyl hexapeptide-8) — the same peptide concept with two additional amino acids, developed by the same Spanish laboratory as its successor.
How it works
Muscles receive the command to contract via the SNARE complex — a group of proteins that dock the chemical-messenger packets at the nerve ending. SNAP-8 is a fragment mimicking part of that docking machinery; applied topically, the research proposes it competes at the complex and slightly dampens the intensity of micro-contractions in expression muscles. Less vigorous folding means expression lines — crow’s feet, frown lines — are creased less deeply through the day.
The honest comparison
This is the mechanism injectables act on, which is exactly why the comparison is made and exactly where it must stop: a cream-borne peptide reaches its target inefficiently and softens rather than stills. Published results are visible-but-modest percentage reductions in wrinkle depth over weeks — meaningful in an eye cream, not a substitute for what happens in a treatment room.
In formulation
Appears in eye creams and expression-line serums, usually with supporting hydrators — a plumped surface amplifies the softening. Non-irritating, non-photosensitising, suitable in pregnancy, and comfortable in the eye area, which is its natural home.
