Lemon-Scented Tea Tree Oil

INCI name Leptospermum Petersonii Oil
Function Antimicrobial essential oil
Pregnancy Speak to your doctor
UV sensitivity Not photosensitising

An essential oil from Leptospermum petersonii, an Australian native related to both tea tree and manuka but a distinct species, with a citral-rich, lemon-forward profile.

How it works

Laboratory research associates its citral and citronellal content with antimicrobial activity — the reason it appears in blemish and spot formulations.

Sensitivity

Its naturally occurring citral, citronellol, linalool and geraniol are declared fragrance allergens. In targeted spot use most skin tolerates it; fragrance-reactive skin should patch test, and it is not suited to all-over application.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Evidence on essential oils in pregnancy is limited; the conventional advice at cosmetic levels is to check with your doctor.
