Emollient (Antioxidant-rich botanical oil)

Seabuckthorn Fruit Oil

INCI name Hippophae Rhamnoides (Seabuckthorn) Fruit Oil
Function Emollient (Antioxidant-rich botanical oil)
Pregnancy Suitable
UV sensitivity Not photosensitising

A deep-orange oil pressed from seabuckthorn berries, distinctive for its high content of palmitoleic acid — omega-7 — a fatty acid also found in skin’s own sebum.

How it works

Research associates omega-7 and the oil’s carotenoids and vitamin E with support for skin softness and barrier comfort. Its fatty-acid profile is unusually close to skin’s own surface lipids, which is why it features in richer moisturisers for dry skin.

Tolerability

Well tolerated. The colour is natural — at moisturiser levels it does not tint the skin.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

No established concerns at topical cosmetic levels; conventionally considered suitable.
