Soothing agent

Calendula Extract

INCI name Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract
Function Soothing agent
Pregnancy Suitable
UV sensitivity Not photosensitising

An extract of marigold flowers, with centuries of traditional use on irritated skin and a modern record in soothing formulations.

How it works

Calendula’s triterpenoids — principally faradiol esters — are associated in research with soothing activity and support for a comfortable skin surface, alongside carotenoid antioxidants.

Sensitivity

Well tolerated by most skin. As an Asteraceae (daisy-family) plant, it can cross-react in people with ragweed or related allergies — patch test where that applies.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

No established concerns at topical cosmetic levels; conventionally considered suitable.
