An extract of the root of the common nettle. Despite the plant’s sting in the garden, the processed extract contains none of the irritant hairs — instead it carries polysaccharides, lignans and minerals.
How it works
Research associates nettle root extract with soothing and astringent properties in topical use. In cleansers it is included to leave skin feeling calm and refreshed rather than stripped.
Tolerability
Generally well tolerated across skin types, with no photosensitising effect.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
No established concerns are associated with topical use at cosmetic levels, and it is conventionally considered suitable.
