One of the body’s own front-line antioxidant enzymes — the catalyst that converts the superoxide radical, among the most damaging free radicals, into less harmful molecules.
How it works
Unlike consumable antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, which neutralise one radical each, an enzyme keeps catalysing — research associates topical SOD with sustained antioxidant capacity and support for skin exposed to UV and pollution stress. It is often paired with glutathione, the body’s master antioxidant, as here.
Tolerability
Very well tolerated, with no photosensitising effect.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
No concerns are associated with topical use; conventionally considered suitable.
