The water side, on lips

Lips have almost no barrier of their own, which is why they dry first. Sodium hyaluronate and konjac glucomannan, two strongly water-binding polysaccharides, hold moisture at the surface for a smoothed, fuller look, while a small water phase inside the balm gives them something to work with.

The cushion

Castor oil, shea butter, jojoba esters and a bench of plant waxes (candelilla, carnauba, sunflower, berry) build the long-wearing emollient layer that keeps that water in place for hours rather than minutes.

The recovery bench

Arnica, mimosa tenuiflora, marshmallow root and bisabolol are the traditional comfort quartet, joined by phytonadione epoxide, a vitamin K derivative that appears in professional post-treatment care. Together they are the reason this balm doubles as the one to keep on hand after in-clinic lip work.

After treatments

If your lips have just been treated in clinic, use it exactly as your practitioner directs, their timing instructions take precedence over anything on a label.

Worth knowing

Contains arnica, a daisy-family plant, avoid with an Asteraceae allergy, and sesame seed extract, which matters if you have a sesame allergy. Castor oil, though a classic lip ingredient, is an occasional sensitiser; patch test if lips are reactive.

Smooth over lips and the lip border morning, night, and whenever they feel dry. A thicker layer at bedtime works as an overnight lip mask.
