Why cleanse with oil

Oil dissolves oil. A cleansing oil binds to sebum, sunscreen and makeup, including waterproof formulas, and the polyglyceryl emulsifier lets the whole mixture rinse away with water, taking the day with it without surfactant stripping.

The oil blend

Sunflower, coconut and soybean oils carry the cleanse, alongside vitamin E. These are emollient oils that leave the skin barrier comfortable rather than squeaky.

Saccharide isomerate

A plant-derived humectant that binds to skin keratin rather than rinsing away, so hydration persists after the cleanse, unusual and valuable in a rinse-off product.

The aromatic blend

Mandarin, cedarwood, manuka, ylang ylang, basil and rose oils give the formula its scent, with manuka also bringing research-associated antimicrobial activity.

Dry, dehydrated and mature skin, anyone wearing daily sunscreen or makeup, and anyone who wants a proper first cleanse in an evening double-cleanse.

Worth knowing

This is a genuinely aromatic formula, several botanical oils with declared limonene. Fragrance-sensitive or reactive skin should reach for Gentle Clean instead, and patch test this one before committing.

Evenings, massage two to three pumps over dry skin, face and eyes, to dissolve makeup and sunscreen.

Add a splash of warm water and keep massaging as the oil turns milky, then rinse thoroughly. Follow with your usual cleanser if you double-cleanse.

Use alongside

Any routine, as the first step of an evening double cleanse, pairs naturally with Gentle Clean or Purastat 5 as the second step.

On heavy-makeup or high-SPF days it earns its place; on bare-skin days a single water-based cleanse is enough.
