Three acids, one rinse

Mandelic acid works the surface: its large molecule stays where the dullness is, loosening the dead cell build-up that flattens light. Salicylic acid is oil-soluble and slips into pores to clear them from within, with lactic acid lending gentle support.

Raspberry, mangosteen peel and orange extracts round out the brightening side, while yucca root supports a naturally derived lather.

Why acids in a cleanser

A rinse-off acid is the gentlest way to keep exfoliation ticking over: enough contact time to matter, too little to overdo it. That makes this an easy companion to a retinoid routine rather than a competitor.

Combination, oily and congestion-prone skin; dull skin that wants its glow back without committing to a leave-on acid; and retinoid users who prefer their exfoliation confined to the cleanse.

Worth knowing

Scented with citrus peel oils, including bergamot and bitter orange, with limonene and linalool on the label. Contains salicylic acid: skip it with an aspirin allergy, and if you are pregnant it is worth a conversation with your clinician.

Morning or evening: massage over damp skin for up to a minute, then rinse thoroughly. Avoid the eye area.

If your skin is new to acids, start a few times a week and build to daily as tolerance settles.
