Three acids in the wash

Mandelic acid sits sixth on the label, the largest and gentlest of the alpha-hydroxy acids, with salicylic acid to follow oil into the pore and lactic acid to loosen the surface. Even at rinse-off contact times that trio begins dissolving the plug of sebum and dead cells that becomes a blackhead, which is why this counts as a treatment cleanser rather than a plain wash.

Oil control without stripping

A sulphate-free surfactant blend with glycerin cleans thoroughly but leaves the barrier intact, and red clover flower extract, used for its effect on oil-gland activity, and mangosteen peel extract work on shine and congestion between washes.

Worth knowing

Contains bergamot, lavender, spearmint and patchouli oils with declared limonene and linalool, so not for fragrance- or essential-oil-reactive skin. Rinse-off, so the acids are mild in effect and it is suitable during pregnancy. Avoid the eye area.

Morning and evening: massage a small amount into damp skin for thirty to sixty seconds, avoiding the eyes, and rinse thoroughly. Follow with toner, serum and moisturiser. If skin feels tight, drop to once a day.

Use alongside
