Bakuchiol at 1.25%

Bakuchiol is a plant-derived molecule shown in clinical comparison to deliver retinol-like improvements in fine lines, texture and tone, without retinol's irritation, sun sensitivity or pregnancy restrictions. Medik8 uses it at 1.25%, wrapped in the same stability system that protects its vitamin A range so it stays active to the last drop.

The peptide

Undecylenoyl phenylalanine is a brightening peptide that works on uneven tone and the look of dark spots, which is why this sits as an ageing and pigmentation step rather than a lines-only one.

The oil base

Sunflower, sacha inchi, olive, moringa and jojoba oils with centella, turmeric and holy basil extracts make the texture calming and comfortable, closer to a facial oil than a serum. Fragrance-free.

Anyone who cannot use retinol: during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with very sensitive or rosacea-prone skin, or after reacting to vitamin A. Also a good evening step for drier skin that wants a smoothing serum with the comfort of an oil.

Worth knowing

Oil texture, so oily or congestion-prone skin may prefer Crystal Retinal. Not a reason to stop retinol if you tolerate it; for those who do, Crystal Retinal remains the stronger option.

Evenings after cleansing: press three or four drops into face and neck before moisturiser.

Can be used nightly from the first use. Suitable during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Use alongside

Gentle Cleanse before it and Advanced Night Restore or Total Moisture over it. Works alongside vitamin C in the morning and acids on alternate nights. Can replace Crystal Retinal during pregnancy and pick it back up afterwards.
