When it earns its place

Midday flushing, the walk home in heat, flights, gyms and long afternoons under office air: the moments a routine cannot reach are exactly where a mist can.

The honest caveat

Like its sibling gel it is scented and lightly tinted, with fragrance allergens on the label. Comfortable for most reactive-leaning skin; the most fragrance-sensitive should patch test first.

Skin that flushes through the day and wants an answer it can carry; makeup wearers needing a top-up that will not disturb the morning's work; and anyone whose skin ends hot days redder than it started them.

Worth knowing

A soothing essence for resilient-but-reactive skin rather than a recovery dressing; truly compromised skin wants fragrance-free care first. It lives happily in a handbag and even more happily in the fridge.

After cleansing, or any moment skin runs warm: mist two to three pumps from about twenty centimetres and let it settle. No need to pat.

Within a routine it takes the toner's slot, after cleansing and before serums; over makeup, a single light pass is enough.
