How it works

Two renewal agents

Retinol and bakuchiol share the resurfacing work, the retinoid driving turnover and bakuchiol extending it with less of the irritation, so the brightening actives are delivered to fresher skin each night.

The tone bench

Glutathione, sodium ascorbyl phosphate (a stabilised vitamin C) and acetyl glucosamine come at pigmentation from three directions: antioxidant support, tyrosinase interference and gentler surface renewal, with safflower oleosomes carrying them in.

The cushion

Ceramide NP, bisabolol and a rich emollient base keep the retinoid tolerable night after night, which is what makes a brightening retinol usable rather than merely potent.

Who it suits

Skin with uneven tone, sun damage and the first lines, wanting one evening step that addresses both; established retinol users moving from the original 0.25% and 0.5% formulas to the reformulation; and anyone running a ZO program who needs the brightening night step.

Worth knowing

Contains retinol: phase in gradually, wear SPF daily and set it aside during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Scented with lavender, geranium and eucalyptus oils with a long list of declared allergens, and contains sulfites. This is the reformulated version; our original 0.25% and 0.5% listings remain available while stock lasts.

How to use

Evenings on cleansed, dry skin: a pea-sized amount over face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Start two to three nights a week and build to nightly as tolerance allows.

Daily broad-spectrum SPF the following morning is part of the program, not optional.

Layering

Use alongside

Daily Power Defense in the morning, SPF always, and Hydrating Crème over the top on nights skin needs more cushion. Keep other retinoids and leave-on acids off the same evening.

Before you start

Not suitable if

  • You are pregnant
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding — contains retinol
  • Fragrance or essential oil sensitivity — lavender, geranium and eucalyptus oils with linalool, citronellol, geraniol, citral, limonene and more on the label
  • Sulfite sensitivity — contains sodium bisulfite and sodium metabisulfite
  • Active eczema, dermatitis or broken skin — let the barrier recover first

  • Patch test on a small area of skin before first full use
  • Increases skin sensitivity to UV. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily
