Dark circles are not one problem
They arise from vascular congestion, from pigment, from thin skin allowing what sits beneath to show through, or some combination. This formula addresses several routes.
The peptides
Four, doing different jobs.
Palmitoyl tripeptide-1 is a matrikine, modelled on a collagen fragment, signalling to fibroblasts as though repair were needed. Palmitoyl hexapeptide-12 is studied for effects on matrix proteins. Both carry palmitoyl chains improving barrier compatibility.
Tetrapeptide-30 is the interesting one. Unlike most peptides, it is studied specifically for pigmentation, with proposed effects on tyrosinase, the enzyme that initiates melanin production. In an eye product that is a targeted inclusion rather than a general anti-ageing one.
Ornithine is an amino acid involved in the urea cycle and in polyamine synthesis, included for its role in tissue metabolism.
A note on TriHex. Alastin's signature technology is hexapeptide-11 with acetyl tetrapeptide-2. Neither appears in this formula. The peptides here are different ones.
Niacinamide
Position ten, which is high. It interferes with the transfer of melanin from melanocytes to surrounding keratinocytes, addressing pigmentation directly. It also supports barrier lipid production and has anti-inflammatory activity, both of which matter on skin this thin.
The vascular and pigmentation botanicals
Albizia julibrissin bark, silk tree, is used in eye formulations for effects on glycation, the cross-linking of proteins by sugars that contributes to yellowing and stiffening of tissue over time.
Darutoside, from Siegesbeckia orientalis, is studied for effects on matrix proteins and appears in firming formulations.
Gallyl glucoside and epigallocatechin gallatyl glucoside are stabilised, glucosylated derivatives of gallic acid and of EGCG, the principal green tea catechin. Glucosylation improves stability considerably, since both compounds oxidise readily in their native form.
Dunaliella salina is a carotenoid-rich microalga.
Hydration and barrier
Sodium hyaluronate, tremella fuciformis, betaine and beta-glucan all hold water by different routes. Glycolipids, phospholipids, squalane and shea butter extract supply barrier lipids, which matters where there are few oil glands.
Jojoba esters contribute a light emollient layer.
The immediate effect
Silica and HDI/trimethylol hexyllactone crosspolymer are light-diffusing and blurring particles, softening the appearance of fine lines on application.
This part is optical and washes off, distinct from anything the peptides do over months.
What is not in it
No fragrance, no essential oils, no declared allergens, no alcohol, no acids and no retinoid.
That last point matters for an eye product. Retinoids are the conventional route to under-eye texture, and they are also poorly tolerated by many people on the thinnest skin on the face. A peptide formula is a slower but considerably gentler alternative.
