Why the neck needs its own product
The skin on the neck and décolletage is structurally different from facial skin. It is thinner, has fewer sebaceous glands, and contains less supporting collagen. It also moves constantly and receives sun exposure that people routinely forget about.
The result is that the neck often shows age before the face does, and that a formula designed for facial skin is not necessarily the right density for it.
TriHex Technology
Alastin's patented peptide platform. The proposition is that supporting the skin's own clearance of damaged, fragmented collagen and elastin creates a better environment for new fibres to form, rather than only stimulating production.
Acetyl tetrapeptide-2 carries this here, joined by palmitoyl hexapeptide-12 and palmitoyl tripeptide-1. The latter is a matrikine, a fragment that signals to fibroblasts as though repair were required, and one half of the Matrixyl 3000 pairing. Both carry palmitoyl chains that improve their compatibility with the skin barrier.
Niacinamide, high in the formula
Ninth position, which is unusually high for this ingredient and indicates it is doing significant work.
Niacinamide has documented effects through several unrelated routes: increased ceramide production supporting the barrier, interference with the transfer of melanin from melanocytes to surrounding cells, and anti-inflammatory activity relevant to the appearance of redness.
All three matter on the neck, where thin skin, uneven pigmentation from sun exposure and visible redness commonly appear together.
Ceramide NP
A real ceramide rather than a synthetic analogue. Ceramides make up roughly half the lipid content of the outer skin layer, holding cells together and limiting water loss.
Ceramide NP, also called ceramide 3, denotes a non-hydroxy fatty acid attached to a phytosphingosine base. It is among the more abundant subtypes in human skin.
On skin with fewer oil glands, supplying barrier lipids directly is a sensible approach.
Hydration
Tremella fuciformis is snow mushroom, a polysaccharide-rich extract with water-holding capacity comparable to hyaluronic acid but with smaller particle size in some preparations. Betaine is an amino acid derivative and a natural osmolyte, helping cells maintain water balance under stress.
Pullulan and sclerotium gum form a light film at the surface. Squalane, shea butter extract and avocado fruit extract provide emollience.
The antioxidant layer
Olive leaf extract contains oleuropein, a well-studied polyphenol antioxidant. Ascorbyl palmitate is an oil-soluble vitamin C derivative. Tocopherol is vitamin E.
Dunaliella salina is a microalga notably rich in carotenoids, including phytoene and phytofluene. These are colourless carotenoids studied for antioxidant activity and for absorbing in the UV range, which is likely why the extract appears in a product for an area that gets significant sun exposure.
No fragrance
Worth stating plainly, because it is unusual. This formula contains no fragrance, no essential oils, no declared fragrance allergens and no alcohol.
That makes it a meaningfully different proposition from many products in this category, and a reasonable option if you have reacted to scented products before.
