Why gentle cleansing matters

Cleansing sits at the start of every routine, and it is where reactive skin is most often set off. Conventional foaming surfactants can disturb the skin barrier as they lift oil, leaving skin tight and more sensitive to whatever follows.

The surfactant system

Gentle Clean uses sugar- and coconut-derived cleansing agents (glucosides and amphoteric surfactants) that form a soft lather and rinse clean at skin-friendly pH, removing makeup, sunscreen and oil with less disturbance to the barrier.

Canadian Willowherb

Aspect’s signature botanical, an extract of Epilobium angustifolium. Research associates its main polyphenol, oenothein B, with antioxidant activity and reduced markers of irritation, included here to visibly calm redness during and after cleansing.

Lactic acid

Present in a low, supporting amount for skin softness and pH balance rather than exfoliation. This is not an acid-exfoliating cleanser.

Skin that feels tight, dry or easily upset after cleansing, and reactive or sensitive skin generally.

Also works as a soft first cleanse for any skin type.

Worth knowing

The formula includes tangerine peel oil, a natural fragrance note. Skin with a known citrus or fragrance sensitivity should patch test first.

Morning and evening, massage a small amount over damp skin, working into a light lather.

Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and pat dry. Avoid direct contact with the eyes.

Use alongside

Everything, a gentle cleanse is the neutral first step under any serum, treatment or moisturiser.

Particularly useful alongside retinoids or exfoliating acids, where a low-irritation cleanse helps offset the actives’ workload.
